Otitis media is the most common diagnosis for which antibiotics are
prescribed in pediatrics. 25 million yearly visits related to OM. In 1975
there were 9.9 million visits, and in 1990 there were 24.5 million visits. 65% of
antibiotics given to children are prescribed for OM. There are 313,000 tube
operations/year in the US.
